Is your return being prepared under the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program?

The Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) project is supported by community organizations and the CRA. The CVITP enlists the help of community volunteers to prepare tax returns for eligible individuals for free.

Your answer to this question helps the CRA measure the number of Canadians that are using this valuable service.

Are you filing a return with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) for the very first time?

Answer Yes to this question if this is the first tax return that you’re filing or the first tax return you’re filing on your own, separately from your parent’s return.

Keep in mind, if you’re filing your return for the first time and want to file it using NETFILE, there is a possibility your return might be rejected by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), if they don’t have your complete date of birth on file. Click here for more information.

 

Are you filing a return with Revenu Québec for the very first time?

Answer Yes to this question if this is the first tax return that you’re filing or the first tax return you’re filing on your own, separately from your parent’s return.

If you answer Yes, you can't use NetFile Québec to file your return. Instead, you have to file using the Online Filing of an Income Tax Return service.

Note: In order to NetFile your Québec return, you have to be a registered user of Revenu Québec’s My Account service. Once you’ve filed your first return and have received your Notice of Assessment (NOA), you’ll be able to register with the My Account service and, from that point on, NetFile your return.

Do you want to receive your 2017 Revenu Québec Notice of Assessment online only, through My Account?

If you file your return online, you can choose to receive your Notice of Assessment (NOA) online instead of having it mailed to you. If you answer Yes to this question, you’ll no longer receive your NOA by mail.

Do you want to receive Revenu Québec notices about the solidarity tax credit online only, through My Account?

If you answer Yes to this question, Revenu Québec to provide you with information about the Solidarity tax credit through the My Account service, you’ll be able to:

  • Claim the credit
  • Notify Revenu Québec about changes to your personal/living situation
  • View the status of your file or application and
  • Give or revoke consent to receive the Solidarity tax credit notices electronically
