If you were a student in 2017 and you’ve entered your tuition tax certificate (such as a T2202A, TL11A/TL11B/TL11C, or an RL-8 slip) on the QUICK SLIP page in the H&R Block’s tax software, the tuition tax credit amount you can claim this year is automatically calculated. You can then:
- Claim the federal and provincial tuition tax credit calculated for you
- Carry forward any unused federal and provincial tuition tax credit or
- Transfer any unused federal and provincial tuition tax credit amount to a family member
You can also claim or enter any of the following on your return by selecting Unused tuition amounts you carried forward from a previous year, interest paid on a student loan, and money received for school (a scholarship, grant, etc.) option on the IN THIS SECTION icon under the PREPARE tab:
- Tuition amounts that you’ve carried forward from a previous year
- Interest paid on government student loan in 2017 or not claimed in a previous year
- Scholarship, grant, or bursary amounts that wasn’t reported on a slip (T4A or RL-1 slip) or
