You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2017 tax software if, on the T4A-RCA: Statement of Distributions from a Retirement Compensation Agreement (RCA) page, you entered an amount in box 17 that exceeds the amount entered in box 16:
The distributions eligible for pension income splitting (box 17) can’t be higher than the distributions (box 16). Make sure you entered the amount shown on the T4A-RCA slip correctly. [error code: 164]
How do I fix this?
To correct the error, return to the T4A-RCA page (under the QUICK ENTRY tab, on the QUICK SLIP icon), and enter the amounts in box 16 (distributions) and box 17 (distributions eligible for pension income splitting) as shown on your T4A-RCA paper slip. The amount in box 17 can’t be more than the amount entered in box 16.
Note: To enter your T4A-RCA slip into the software, go to the QUICK ENTRY tab and click on the QUICK SLIP icon. Type "T4A-RCA" in the search field and click the highlighted selection or press Enter to continue.
