You'll see the following error message in H&R Block’s 2017 tax software if you're filing your return separately from your spouse or common-law partner and, on the Your spouse’s return page, you entered his or her pension income amount that was more than the maximum amount of $2,000.00:
Your spouse's or common-law partner's pension income amount can't be more than $2000.00. Please ensure you entered the correct amount from his/her 2017 return. [error code: 169]
How do I fix this?
To fix the error, return to the Your spouse’s return page and enter the correct pension income amount from your spouse’s 2017 tax return. The maximum pension income amount that can be claimed is $2,000.00 if your spouse reported eligible pension, superannuation, or annuity payments on their return.
Note: The Your spouse’s return page can be found under the REQUIRED icon on the PREPARE tab.
